Jose Mourinho confirms Man United are down to ZERO fit strikers

Romelu Lukaku was stretchered off the pitch receiving oxygen after suffering a concussion from an accidental clash of heads early in the game.

Marcus Rashford came on to partner Jesse Lingard in attack but the young forwards lacked a killer instinct as Untied fell to third in the table.

During Jose Mourinho’s post-match interview with BT Sport he confirmed that United will go to Everton on Monday without any fit strikers.

Lukaku will be out for at least six days after his head injury and Mourinho delivered further bad news about Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“Zlatan one month out,” was all it took to send shockwaves through the fan base of a club who were struggling to score even with their best strikers.

That leaves Antony Martial and Rashford to lead the line for United against the Toffees.

The home draw to Southampton completed a woeful festive period for United as they drew three successive games with Leicester, Burnley and the Saints.

I just want to congratulate you on your performancePA:Empics Sport

But Jose insisted he was happy with the rest of the squad and tempered hopes of a January shopping spree for recruitments.

“I really don’t know [if United need reinforcements], but I’m happy with the players’ attitude and the players’ desires and I have no complaints about my players.”

We believe you, Jose.

AC Milan beats Inter to reach Italian Cup semifinals

AC Milan beats Inter to reach Italian Cup semifinals
AC Milan beats Inter to reach Italian Cup semifinals
MILAN -- AC Milan and its third-choice goalkeeper surprisingly edged city rival Inter Milan 1-0 after extra time to reach the semifinals of the Italian Cup on Wednesday.

Patrick Cutrone scored in the 104th minute to book Milan a meeting with Lazio in a two-leg semifinal in January and February. The teenager was booked for taking his shirt off during wild celebrations.

"It seems like just yesterday I was in the youth team, I was playing in a derby and I celebrated like this, but doing so at San Siro is something incredible," Cutrone said.

"We needed this for morale, the derby is not a normal match. We'll enjoy going through and from tomorrow we'll think about our next league match against Fiorentina ... I love Milan and I want to stay here."

This result is one of the few positives in a miserable season for Milan, which lies 11th in Serie A. Milan and Inter have lost their last two league matches but the Nerazzurri are third in the league.

"There is still a lot of suffering ahead, it would be crazy to think we have solved all our problems with this win," Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso said. "But it will help us work more calmly."

Milan was already without teenage goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and was hit by a late blow when second-choice Marco Storari pulled out of the warmup with injury.

Antonio Donnarumma was given his debut. A former Milan youth team player, he was re-signed by the Rossoneri as part of the deal which saw his younger brother sign a new, long-term contract.

Donnarumma appeared to have committed a howler midway through the half when Ivan Perisic knocked back a corner and the ball came off the goalkeeper and into his own net, but his blushes were spared when the goal was ruled out after video review confirmed Andrea Ranocchia was offside and standing practically on the line.

That seemed to settle Donnarumma's nerves and the keeper acquitted himself well, with confident saves.

He did brilliantly on the hour mark with a sensational reaction save to deny Joao Mario from point-blank range, although the Portugal international should have done better after being set up perfectly by Mauro Icardi.

Both sides had good chances to seal the match in regulation time but it took until just before the halfway point in extra time for the deadlock to be broken.

Suso chipped a ball over the top, and substitute Cutrone sidefooted it past Samir Handanovic from 10 yards.

At the final whistle Donnarumma struggled to hold back tears of joy and he was hugged by all of his teammates as well as his younger brother.

Alonso demands 'clinical' Chelsea after 'very disappointing' Everton draw
Marcos Alonso has called for Chelsea to be more clinical as they look to bounce back from their goalless draw with Everton. The champions dominated Saturday's Premier League clash at Goodison Park but failed to make the most of their opportunities against Sam Allardyce's diligent side. The result, coupled with Manchester City's 4-0 win over Bournemouth, means Antonio Conte's side are 16 points adrift of top spot with half the season gone.  Alonso acknowledged it was a "very disappointing" result and has urged his team-mates to be more ruthless against Brighton and Hove Albion on Boxing Day. "We were very unlucky not to win after controlling the whole game and having a lot of chances," he said, as quoted by the club's official website. "But we take one point, it is what it is, very disappointing. "We knew it was going to be tough and as the game was passing it was getting harder because they were defending closer to their goal. The performance wasn't bad, we just need to be more clinical." Never deserved to draw today but we keep going! "Of course, it's very disappointing because I think we were the better team and we had a lot of chances to score but you have some days when it's like that," said Rudiger. "You can even play for maybe three hours and you wouldn't score. "We needed the three points so we have to keep going. We played a good match but we were just unlucky. "The target can only be six points. It's not easy but that's our aim, that's what we're going for, we want six points."

Giggs told The Times: “I watched Gabriel Jesus play three years ago. I watched Mbappé for a year.

“I was watching them with the scout and it was a no-brainer. It was just like, ‘Get them.’

“It would have been £5 million or something — get them, loan them back — and that’s where the recruitment could have been better.”

Arsenal and Manchester City plotting summer swoop for Burnley star James Tarkowski

Arsenal and Manchester City plotting summer swoop for Burnley star James Tarkowski

PREMIER LEAGUE giants Manchester City and Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Burnley star James Tarkowski ahead of a potential summer move.

The 25-year-old defender has been in stunning form for Sean Dyche’s side this season.

The Clarets have only conceded 12 goals in 18 Premier League matches, allowing them to gatecrash the top six, and Tarkowski has been an integral part of that success.

And now The Times claim his performances have caught the eye of both Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger.

Burnley will reject any interest in the former Oldham man in next month’s transfer window as they aim to continue their remarkable start to the campaign.

The centre-half is only under contract until 2019, which could put the Clarets in a tricky situation next summer.

They could decide to cash in while they can or risk losing him for free the following year.

The transformation in Tarkowski’s fortunes has been remarkable over recent months.

NAHK WANTED Championship side line-up swoop for Burnley striker

He barely figured for Dyche’s men last season after joining the club in February 2016 from Brentford.

However, Michael Keane’s big-money departure to Everton allowed him an opportunity to impress and he has grasped it with both hands.

(function(){ var voice = document.createElement('script');voice.type = 'text/javascript'; voice.src = 'https://inconversation.net/widgets.js';var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(voice, s); })();

A move to either the Citizens or the Gunners would obviously be a tantalising option for Tarkowski.

As a Mancunian, a switch to the Etihad would seemingly be his most favourable, especially given he moved back to the North West due to family reasons.

But he would likely find more regular action at Arsenal.

Tarkowski and his team-mates will be hoping to take another step towards sealing a European place this weekend.

They welcome Tottenham, who sit a place and a point behind them, to Turf Moor on Saturday.

And depending on Arsenal’s result against Liverpool on Friday, they could even find themselves level on points with the Anfield side in fourth.

Arsenal fight mouse infestation in VIP box kitchens after damning council hygiene report

ARSENAL have been forced to deal with a mice infestation after receiving a damning hygiene report from the local council.

The Gunners were ordered to take action when inspectors conducted their last visit to the Emirates Stadium and discovered “extensive evidence of mouse activity”.

Droppings were across several kitchens in the ground, some of them servicing the VIP boxes.

And the report also criticised the way the club and the stadium management company failed to communicate properly to deal with the issues.

The document reveals how droppings were found in the Diamond Club Kitchen, Cox Kitchen 7 and The Woolwich Bar.

And it also says inspectors had strong reason to believe there would me more issues around the Emirates in areas they had not examined.

It criticised the lack of cleaning taking place, that some staff were unaware of the problem and that visible droppings and food debris needed to be removed.

The report was sent to Arsenal last year, and demanded that they “must” check for mouse activity every time they open up the stadium – and also to provide torches for staff to search for droppings under equipment.

EDEN PROJECT Man Utd join Real Madrid in race for £90m Chelsea star Eden Hazard

It then went on to order the Gunners to implement more measures to control the rodents, including “improved use of authorised rodenticide treatment”.

Arsenal say they have responded to the issues raised in the report and taken steps to deal with the issue.

The site of the Emirates Stadium next to a railway line is understood to be one of the factors that increases the prospect of having a pest problem.

An Arsenal spokesman said: “The health, safety and security of our fans is always our first priority and we were therefore very disappointed to learn of these deficiencies in October 2016.

“Upon receiving the report, we immediately implemented a series of measures to address the areas of concern.

“We are confident in the steps we have taken in the last year and continue to work with external experts to ensure that we are taking the right actions moving forward.”

I'd leave the pitch in a coffin for Mourinho - Terry
Jose Mourinho was held in such high esteem by John Terry that the former Chelsea captain says would have left the pitch "in a coffin for him". Mourinho first joined Chelsea in 2004 and led the club to their first top-flight title in 50 years, successfully defending the Premier League in 2006 before adding a domestic cup double the following season. Key to their triumphs was a solid spine including Petr Cech, Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. Mourinho returned after stints with Inter and Real Madrid and led Chelsea to a Premier League and EFL Cup double in 2014-15, with centre-back Terry still a key member of the squad. He did everything," Terry said on Sky Sports. "He was the first one to come and revolutionise it at Chelsea. He would be the first in, 8am, he'd be the one setting the cones out, and you'd come in as players and he'd be out there, if it was pouring with rain, getting his session organised. "Mentally and psychologically, he had us from day one. We bought in to whatever he was going to deliver that day and he was the same when he came back. Having his presence there was enough. "He had his eyes on everyone and when he speaks no one messes about or plays with a ball. You listen to him, he was the boss. "I would give everything for him. I would leave that pitch in a coffin for him and every player felt the same."

FIFA 18: Could a massively upgraded Kaka FUT card be on the way?

All we want for FUTMas is an upgraded Kaka card.

That’s the view of FIFA 18 gamers, who – following the Brazilian announcing his retirement at the weekend – are calling on EA Sports to give him a well-deserved ratings boost.

The 35-year-old, who has been winding down his career on loan in Sao Paulo, was one of the world’s best attacking midfielders in his peak.

Kaka, widely considered to be one of the greatest playmakers of his generation, had two spells with Milan, with a stunning few years at Real Madrid in between.

When on form, the imposing 6ft 1ins Brazilian was capable of unlocking even the most robust of defences, and still more than pulled his weight as father time took its toll.

This mocked-up Kaka card would make the Brazilian one of the game’s deadliest players

In addition to a number of individual awards, he was named in both the FIFPro World XI and the UEFA Team of the Year three times.

Sadly, injuries begin to hamper his talent – and his ability to dribble began to deteriorate. He moved to MLS in 2014, netting 24 goals in 75 games for Orlando City.

Unsurprisingly, fans are calling for the Brazilian to among the players to get upgraded in the FUTMas period.

One has even mocked up what his card should look like – and it’s an absolute beast.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte eyed by Real Madrid as they seek potential alternatives to Zinedine Zidane

Football news - transfers, fixtures, scores, pictures | The Sun
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte eyed by Real Madrid as they seek potential alternatives to Zinedine Zidane

ANTONIO CONTE has emerged as the latest contender to land the biggest job in world football as boss of Real Madrid.

Chelsea’s Italian manager is high up on a list of candidates to succeed current coach Zinedine Zidane who is under increasing pressure with his  contract up at the end of the season.

Antonio Conte has emerged as a contender for the Real Madrid jobPA:Press Association

Conte still has a year and a half to go on his £10million-a-season deal at Chelsea but has also been linked with a return to Italian giants AC Milan.

With constant speculation that he is not entirely happy with life at Stamford Bridge and fancies a move home, Milan were the early front-runners to persuade Conte to quit England in the summer.

Conte, who joined the Blues in the summer of 2016, claims he remains fully  committed to Chelsea despite  conceding defeat in the quest to retain the Premier League title which he won in his first season in charge.

But the lure of the most prized position in club football at the 12-time European champions would be a significant temptation, even if it would mean delaying finally returning to his homeland.

Madrid were forced to endure the embarrassment of finishing as runners-up to Tottenham in their Champions League group this season.

And as a result they have since been drawn against highly-fancied Paris Saint-Germain — led by £198m Brazilian hotshot Neymar — in the round of 16.

CARL OF DUTY Carlo Ancelotti tipped for incredible return to Chelsea if club get rid of Antonio Conte

Real Madrid are also fourth in Spain’s La Liga and Zidane has seen his team of Galacticos slump to some humiliating defeats this season amid rumours that megastar Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy and that he is preparing to offload Welsh wing wizard Gareth Bale.

All of which is putting the squeeze on Zidane and forcing the club to look at managerial options. Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino is also on the list of possibles and masterminded a memorable 3-1 defeat over Real this season at Wembley.

Conte’s relations with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich have been strained in the past but it is believed the pair are on better terms at the moment despite the team being 14 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Even winning back-to-back Champions League titles has not made Zinedine Zidane safeAP:Associated Press

Conte also insists there is no hidden agenda with the injury to Brazilian defender David Luiz, who is out again with a knee problem.

The Brazilian has played just one game since the start of  November and was axed from the matchday squad against Manchester United on  November 5 following a row between the two.

Conte said: “To stop this, I think it’s right to call the doctor and to have a conference with him. I understand that someone is thinking that I’m not telling the truth. I’m disappointed about this, but I can understand it.

Antonio Conte has a year and a half remaining on his contractGetty Images

“I’d like to tell you a bad truth rather than a good lie. In this way, I can avoid having to answer this question. Avoid the creation of this atmosphere of ‘it’s not true what he’s telling us’. I will try to solve the situation.

“David has a big inflammation in his knee. It’s important to assess the situation day by day. But I don’t know when he’s able to come back with us.

“In the last few days he was out to work in the pool. Today I saw him on the pitch, to try to run a bit. But very slow. I think that this is a serious problem.”

Ex-Impact defender Laurent Ciman issues classy goodbye after trade
MONTREAL -- Defender Laurent Ciman, shocked at being traded by the Montreal to the expansion Los Angeles FC this week, took to social media to thank Montreal fans for their support the last three seasons.

A Twitter posting on Thursday from the Belgium international, his first statement since the trade, said "destiny" sent him to California, but caused him to leave without a proper goodbye.

"I wanted so much to say how proud I was wear your colours," he wrote in French. "I arrived in Canada, excuse me, Quebec, in 2015.

"I discovered Montreal, a magnificent city. I fell in love with its streets, its smell, it's people, its history. For my family, Montreal was a complete stranger. Today, Montreal is part of my family."

A report quoting agent Jean Russo said Ciman, who was MLS defender of the year in his first season, was stunned to learn he was traded on Tuesday for former Toronto FC fullback Raheem Edwards and left back Jukka Raitala, who had been selected in the MLS expansion draft.

The agent said the 32-year-old Ciman had a verbal agreement to finish his career with the Impact.

He joined the Impact from Belgian club Standard Liege because Montreal offered better treatment than he could get at home for his autistic daughter Nina. He bought a house in the city and was expecting a long stay.

The trade was Montreal's biggest move since the hiring Nov. 8 of French coach Remi Garde, who is expected to make sweeping changes after the club missed the playoffs one year after reaching the Eastern Conference final.

United were said to be incensed about the way City reacted to the derby win, with loud music reportedly coming from the latter’s dressing room.

Mourinho then had a confrontation with City’s goalkeeper Ederson, initially in Portuguese but then in- what we presume was very friendly and well mannered- English.

Romelu Lukaku, who had an unfortunate hand in both City goals and missed a fantastic chance to equalise late in the game, was reportedly involved in the commotion.

So, compared to 2004, when Fergie had to wipe margherita off his jacket, this was quite serious.

Manchester United and Manchester City are keen but Pochettino refused to kill off the chances of Bale heading back to the north Londoners.

He said: “Of course he’s a fantastic player.  I saw him in Madrid when we played there.

“He’s always kept in contact with the people who worked here in the past.

“I don’t have a close relationship with him or the people around him. But you never know what’s going to happen in football.”
