LUKA MODRIC has paid £880,000 to Spanish tax authorities in order to avoid jail term.
The Real Madrid star was due in court today to receive his sentence after being accused of two counts of tax fraud over his image rights, which date back to 2013 and 2014.

But El Mundo report that Modric has accepted the punishment and voluntarily offered to pay back the money before his court date.
Modric has paid back around £256,000 from 2013 and £511,000, which dates back to 2014 — but interest saw the figure rise to £880,000.
Had the former Tottenham man opted for court proceedings, he could have been looking at a jail term.
