Was Cristiano Ronaldo helping Edison Cavani or merely hurrying him off the pitch?

Was Cristiano Ronaldo helping Edison Cavani or merely hurrying him off the pitch?

Uruguay versus Portugal wasn’t quite the fiery encounter we were expecting, was it?

I mean, we were all waiting to see Pepe get sent off for slapping Luis Suarez after having his ear bit off, or something.

Still, both sides ran it close towards the end, with the final score being 2-1 to Uruguay, with Edison Cavani netting a brilliant brace.

But as time ticked by, a moment in the second-half has left us all wondering whether one of the ‘moments of the tournament’ – according to some, anyway – was in fact all it appeared to be.

Maybe we’re just cynics?

On the 70th minute, television cameras picked up Cavani seemingly limping and clearly in a lot of discomfort.

Grabbing his leg, the PSG forward fell to the floor before slowly getting up and walking over to the technical area, ready to be replaced.

But as he made his way off the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo then decided to put his arm around his opponent and help him on his way.

You never see that, do you?

The crowd applauded what was certainly a beautiful moment.

But was Ronaldo being a good sport and helping his rival, or was he merely just trying to hurry him along?

We can’t decide.

Ronaldo is making it look like he’s helping Cavani but in reality he’s just asking him for advice.

Whatever you think, it still doesn’t quite beat Mark Noble helping Ander Herrera off the pitch when West Ham hosted Man United last season.

Now that’s how it’s done, Ronny.
